7 Examples of Workplace Gaslighting

  1. “Why are you always pointing out what’s wrong?”

  2. “I’m sorry you feel that way. That's not what I meant. It’s unfortunate you took it that way.” 

  3. “I hear you. I see you.”  Followed up with no change in action.

  4. “Look how far we’ve come. Things aren't that bad.”

  5.   Being told you will get a raise but never receive specifics on amount or timing.

  6. Being told your company values diversity and inclusion and the leadership has been and continues to be mostly white and cis gender.

  7. Being treated or made to feel like a troublemaker when you raise concerns about issues like equity or transparency.

🌀 Workplace gaslighting: It’s tactical. It’s hard to name. It will make you doubt yourself.  It can cause serious long term effects like depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem.

❓When we start to question the reality of past or current gaslighting, we have each other to rely on, to listen, to validate, to brainstorm the next move.
